If you are an alumni

What is the timeframe for the changes?

The base changes will be delivered to all users in three phases over the summer.   Please note that while these schedules have a little bit of flexibility in them, we are trying to ensure that everything is smoothed out with the new systems before the first part of August.

Phase I

May 15th- June 15th

Outook 2007 install at the desktop level of all employee and open access labs.

Schedule

Phase II

June 9- June 27th

Active Directory and Exchange Server integration at the employee desktop.

Schedule

Phase III

June 2008 - Communication to Student/Alumni
July 1st 2008 - Setup of service
August 4, 2008 - Cutover to new system

Student and Alumni Lincoln/Google E-mail transition

A fourth phase will be executed in Fall Semester 2008 to complete the other systems changes that are described above and to ensure that users are comfortable with all of the new features available in the E-mail systems including integrated and shareable calendars and global address list

What will happen to the e-mail in my I-Planet mailbox?

LU Employees -At the time that OIT completes Phase II at the desktop,  the  current e-mail will be transferred to the personal folder that already exists in Outlook.  From that point forward, all new mail will arrive in the employees'  Exchange Mailbox .  All of the old e-mail will remain in the personal folder in Outlook.  (See Screen Shot)

Students, Any previously stored e-mail will remain in your I-Planet mailbox until the server is shut down at the end of September 2008. This will give you plenty of time to review existing e-mail and forward any needed items to your new account. You will use your old username and password to access this mailbox. Any mail sent to your old email address will start forwarding to your new mailbox on August 4th.

Alumni  Alumni that are interested in maintaining a Lincoln email account will need to sign up for a Lincoln e-mail account. Procedures will be advertised soon.

Note:  The I-Planet e-mail server will be left in production until September 31, 2008 to ensure that all users have plenty of time to transfer any needed e-mail to the new account.

How do I know what my username, password and e-mail address is?
New account information will be provided by the technician who installs the updates on your computer.
How do I reset my password?

http://mypassword.lincolnu.edu is our new password management web site. This system will ask you to enroll by selecting three questions and answering these questions. Once enrolled, you will be able to reset your password on your own without calling the help desk. This is much like what banks and credit card companies use. For security reasons, Lincoln is instituting a stronger password requirement. For your convenience, these requirements are listed within the password reset utility.

Visit the self-service password management tool.

Why has my e-mail address changed?
There are several reasons that we have instituted new e-mail addresses for everyone.
  • Students have been requesting a shortened extension to the Lincoln e-mail address. The @my.lincolnu.edu is shorter than @students.lincolnu.edu.   The new e-mail address will continue to be used as a student transitions to alumni status. Please advertise the new e-mail address above; your old address will be retired by January 2009.
  • By changing the e-mail addresses of all students, we are able to keep the mailboxes for I-Planet available for a period of time so that students can retrieve any necessary old mail.
What is the new email system?
On August 4, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. Lincoln University will be switching all currently enrolled students to a new lifetime e-mail system. After this date, all new e-mail sent to your old Lincoln e-mail address will be forwarded to your new account. Your new e-mail will be supported by Lincoln’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) and hosted by Google’s Gmail.   This means your e-mail mailbox will look like a normal Gmail account, but you will be able to access the account using the Lincoln username and password provided in the mailing.
Why Google?
Lincoln’s partnership with Google brings advanced features like online email, calendar, and document sharing. Available through this web site under the “Docs” page is a fully functional Word, Excel, and PowerPoint editor. These “Docs” files and the calendar are sharable with other LU students online and offline through downloading. Another page called “Sites” allows you to create project related group websites to coordinate projects or class material with other students. Your individual storage space is 6.9 Gigabytes. Additional information can be found by accessing help once you login to Google.
